Description
On the 11 August 1855, the Taranaki Militia was sworn in, this remained as a force in name only until 1858 when the Taranaki Volunteer Rifle Corps was formed.
The records include a quartermaster's cashbook, (1868-1873); letterbook, (March-December 1860); record and order book, (March 1859- February 1860); letterbooks, (January 1861-December 1862, April- Sept. 1864, November 1881-March 1891); memoranda books, (May 1861- January 1863, August 1865-1869); a book of military despatches, (August 1863-May 1865); order book, (July 1868-October 1873); sick report books (May-November 1863, December 1864-April 1866), which contain correspondence with the military hospital; quarterly pay-list printed forms with manuscript entries.
Sick Report volumes 1863 - 1866 used for the creation of the Index of Names card index located in the Taranaki Research Centre.
