Typescript copy of Mrs Marian Ellis Rowan's visit to Taranaki, 'Old Memories Revived'. Marian Rowan (nee Ryan) (1848-1922) was an Australian artist, naturalist and explorer who married Frederic Charles Rowan, a British army officer who had fought in the Taranaki wars. The couple lived in Taranaki in the 1870s, where Frederic was a sub-inspector in the Armed Constabulary.
This article gives an account of a trip to Parihaka and a meeting with Te Whiti and Tohu, published in The Town and Country Journal (Sydney) on 24 March 1894. It is also included in Rowan's 1898 book 'Flower Hunter in Queensland and New Zealand'.
