Description
The Atkinson family came to New Zealand on the Sir Edward Paget (1853), settling at New Plymouth where they took an active part in the community. They built a settlement at Hurworth and also owned property in New Plymouth.
The papers are mainly letters but also include a diary of Arthur Samuel Atkinson (1833-1902), newspaper cuttings and pamphlets. The letters are personal family letters except four, which concern a government grant to the widow and family of Sir H. Atkinson (1831-1892) and two reports of the parliamentary activities of Arthur Richmond Atkinson (1863-1935) .
