Tokomaru Canoe
Description
Copies of the correspondence and newspaper cuttings relating to the removal of the 'Tokomaru' waka / canoe (named after the original migration waka) from its resting place in bush near a tributary of the Tangarakau River in eastern Taranaki, its removal in 1973 and restoration at Taranaki Museum. The waka is now on display in Puke Ariki. Includes correspondence on the establishment of a scenic reserve at the site of the waka discovery, named Putikituna Scenic Reserve.
