Description
During the Taranaki Land Wars Burton Charles Lawrence served with the Taranaki Rifle Volunteers. These origianl and photocopied documents are associated with relocating the Lawrence family to Nelson during the Land Wars in August 1860 and a claim for land for Charles Burton Lawrence under the Volunteer Land Act 1865 for his service with the Rifle Volunteers.

1) Permission to leave the province with his family - issued to Sergeant B C Laurence, August 1860 (original and photocopy).

2) Notice for embarkation of wife and children on the Airdale to Nelson - an incomplete notification. 4th August 1860 (original and photocopy).

3) As for item 2, however the form letter has been completed and gives details of embarkation - changes to the original orders - the ship not being the George Henderson. 13th August 1860 (original and photocopy).

4) Claim for land under the Volunteer Act 1865 - B C Laurence claims war service of seven years in the Taranaki Rifle Volunteers (original and photocopy).
