Fred Johns compiled 'A Catalogue of Matchboxes used in New Zealand, 1850 - 1989'.
Compiled from information and collections in museums, findings of archaeologists throughout New Zealand and his substanial collection of NZ Used Match boxes and labels. Also incorporated amongst this material is the catalogue of the New Zealand Produced Matchbox Labels by world known collector Graham Caldwell of Christchurch'.
The catalogue includes photocopied designs of labels and lids with some drawings of same.
Also inludes a paper on 'Wax Vesta Matchboxes found and recovered from military forts, stockades, redoubts used during the Maori wars in New Zealand'. undated and research re William Gregg, Wax Vesta and Wooden Match Making (1889) - condensed, with correspondence and references to National Archives collections.
