A selection of knitting patterns published during the Second World War. Includes garments designed for men in the armed forces.
Some booklets contain knitting patterns for socks, mittens and pullovers and include recipes for cakes and biscuits that could be sent overseas in food parcels.

1) A booklet 'Comforts for men in the Armed Forces', published in 1940 by the National Patriotic Fund Board as a guide to the most suitable types of gifts to be sent to men in the Navy, Army and Air Force of New Zealand in World War II. Contains knitting patterns for socks, mittens and pullovers and recipes for cakes and biscuits. 2 copies.
2) 'For the Soldier Boys' copy of article in the N.Z. Woman's Weelky 26 October 1939 with photograph and patterns for socks, scarf, blalclava, cholera belt and mittens.
3) 'Knitted Garmets and Hospital Comforts for H.M. Forces' booklet published by The personal Service League, London containing patterns for a balaclava, steering gloves, gloves, double scarf, polo-neck pull-over, wristlets, mittens, seaboot stockings, pull-over, helmet with ear-holes, over-socks, bed socks, hot water botle cover, hospital stockings etc.
4) 'Is you man one of the lucky ones?' booklet published by Lever Bros (NZ) Ltd on behalf of Lux. Contains knitting patterns.
