Description
Gibson Motors was founded in 1922 by George Gibson. The firm provided a taxi service between New Plymouth - Mokau - Awakino. This was extended to Te Kuiti in 1926. Two years later Gibson Motors had buses travelling as far as Auckland. Originally operating from a base on the corner of Brougham and Ariki Streets, Gibson Motors moved to the Queen/King Street corner depot in 1956. Some time after 1964, the firm became Gibson Coach Lines and was taken over by Newmans ca.1993.
The collection includes employee's pay records, superannuation schedules and vehicle maintenance records.
