Description
A photocopy of a letter to Mr James Maydew of Macelesfield, Cheshire, England, from William Hine of New Plymouth. The letter is dated 15 July 1883 and describes some of the places visited during the journey to New Zealand including Naples, Port Said, Suez Canal and Melbourne before describing New Plymouth and the surrounding countryside where Hine was farming. He also mentions conditions of employment for his adult son and daughter. James Maydew was an uncle of two girls who were married to Henry Hine and George Hine respectively.
