 Description
Grace Gibson's personal diary written during her voyage to New Zealand on board the ship Rakaia in 1879, describing life in the single women's quarters. Born in Scotland, Grace Gibson (1857-1938) left Edinburgh in 1879. After travelling to Plymouth in England, Grace and her brothers John and George boarded the ship Rakaia for New Zealand, a voyage of 102 days. Grace married John Aitken in 1904.
The diary has been transcribed by Gilbert Gibson. For ease of reading, sentence structure has been added and spelling has been altered.
