Description
The collection includes manuscript material written by H.W. Insull and published items including 'An outline of Administration of Education in Taranaki' (1934), 'Organising Teacher of Schools in Ohura district 1919-1921' and 'Early schools and teachers'. Also included in the collection are extracts from Insull's diaries, personal notes on teachers, schools and Taranaki History and a collection of booklets and resource material used in the compilation of his manuscript material, along with general files of clippings and manuscript notes on various aspects of Taranaki history.
H. A. H. Insull, son of Herbert, utilized these manuscripts, along with other contributions, to edit the book The Taranaki Education Board: beginnings, struggles, progress: a retrospect of the administration of education in Taranaki, 1841-1971. Taranaki Education Board, 1979.
