Description
An autograph book belonging to Mary Humphries. Many of the entries are the response to 23 questions such as favourite virtue, most disliked person etc. A number of those who have written answers in the book are military personnel and local dignitaries. The book also contains three humorous illustrations by Tom Bent of the Royal Marines. Two depict scenes of women refugees and the other shows a fictional Maori attack on the Humphries house (Montosa) based on a raid on Fort Niger on 18 August 1860 during which Bent commanded the guard (this is one of the few known images of Fort Niger).
