Description
A collection of letters written by dairy farmer Albert (Bert) Edward Burwell (1865-1931) to members of his family. Bert was born in Liverpool and emigrated to New Zealand on the ship Akaroa in 1886. He farmed on Kaimata South Road and married Gertrude Minchin in 1897, building a church in her honour after she died of influenza druing the Spanish Flu epidemic of 1918. The letters were written to his family back in England in diary form with the writing style being conversational and descriptive.
