Description
The daughter of Mr A. E. and Mrs Death, Noeline joined the Hawera Star in 1941 as a junior reporter, reporting on social and general news; a time when male journalists were serving overseas. In 1945, she married Athol (Bill) Blackman. In the 1960s, she returned to journalism, this time with the Taranaki Herald and her reviews and articles on theatre and the arts in general were a regular feature.
The collection consists of Noeline Blackman's manuscript (unpublished) 'Spotlight on a Small Town' which centers on Cydie Strang and her interest in theatre and the arts in New Plymouth. Also a series of scrapbooks containing Noeline's newspaper articles, again focusing on theatre and the arts. Also a number of clippings regarding Noeline's husband Bill Blackman who was involved in coal gas and later natural gas reticulation in New Plymouth.
