Description
A Lutheran minister born in Germany, Riemenschneider studied to become a missionary. In June 1843, he came to New Zealand on the 'St. Pauli' arriving at Nelson, later settling at Motukaramu on the Mokau River (Taranaki) and then at Warea in 1846. Among his pupils at the Warea Mission were said to be Te Whiti and Tohu. He was involved with both European and Maori during the Taranaki Land War.
Letters written by Riemenschneider to New Plymouth's Resident Magistrate. Also a passenger list and correspondence relating to the voyage of the Airedale's voyage from New Plymouth to Nelson 1861, presumably carrying refugees to safety.
