The collection begins with a copy of the editorial appearing in The Press on January 10th 1903 which comments on inaccuracies in a recent publication The progress of New Zealand in the Nineteenth Century by R.F. Irvine and O. T. J. Alpers. This in turn starts a series of letters to the editor by O. T. J. Alpers (Wellington), John A Luxford (Lyttleton), John Bryce, Lieut-Col H Gordon and others, with some response by the Editor.
