Description
Born in Kororareka in 1843, Lucy Lord was the daughter of William Lord and fifth child of Kotiro Hinerangi. Lucy was also known as Takiora, Takihora, Lucy Grey, Lucy Dalton and Lucy D'Alton and she was half sister to Tepaea Hinerangi (Guide Sophia) and Topeora.
Lucy and her first husband Te Mahuki were guides and interpreters for Von Tempsky during his New Zealand camaign. After Te Mahuki's death, which probably occurred in 1866, Lucy continued her alliance with Von Tempsky.
The collection consists of a statement referring to the events leading to the death of Von Tempsky at Te Ngutu o te Manu on 7 September 1868.
