Description
Oral history. On the first side, Alison Robinson talks with Nancye O'Keeffe (nee Drake) of 49a Celia Street, Stratford, on 26th March 1999. Nancye talks briefly of her training in Middlemore Hospital before coming to Stratford to complete her maternity training at Avon. She talks of maternity care during the 1950s, surgeons and specialists, some who visited from Hawera and New Plymouth. In 1954, she moved to Stratford Public's theatre (sister). She talks of some case they had to deal with. Nancye left in 1957 and a few years later went to Marire Hospital part-time where she worked until it closed in 1963. Nancy talks of futher training in the late 1960s and her return to work as a trained midwife in Avon. She retired in 1992.
On the second side, Alison talks with Jenny Loveridge ( nee Wallace) of 12 surrey Street, Stratford and Ruby Nahi of 13 Essex Street, Stratford on 6th May 1999. Jenny talks about her expereinces on the kitchen staff and as second Cook and Ruby talks about her involvement in the kitchen staff.
