Description
Oral history. Alison Robinson talks with Doreen Hall (nee Gray) of 20 Regan Street, Stratford on 10th September 1998. Doreen completed her general nursing training in Straford Hospital in the early 1950s. She talks of living in the Nurses Home and after training was completed she travelled, first to Dunedin and then to Australia, returning to Taranaki in the early 1960s, first at New Plymouth and then Waitara, and Opunake Cottage Hospital until she returned to Stratford as Midwife in Charge of Avon (1969). Doreen talks of midwifery trends such as 'rooming in' of babies and adoptions, Avon's training programme, Christmas at the hospital and wages. She resigned from the position in 1985.
Recorded as part of Alison's research into her publication Stratford Hospital Memories (interview no 21). No abstract has been made. An edited transcript is available.
