Description
Felix Hunger arrived in New Zealand in the mid 1860s and began business as a blacksmith in Westport, where he was naturalised in 1870. Shortly after, he moved to the new township of Normanby in South Taranaki. He married Margreth Gredig in 1875.
Involved in the founding of the Normanby Presbyterian Church and the Horticultural Society, Hunger was also a founding shareholder in the first co-operative dairy company in the Hawera district; the company erected its factory on the Tawhiti Stream.
Felix Hunger died at Normanby on 11 May 1918.
The collection contains correspondence and a certificate relating to naturalisation and various letters regarding the Swiss migration during the 1870's.
