 Description
William Halse, a solicitor, came to New Plymouth from England with his brother on the ship Amelia Thompson, arriving in 1841. On arrival he was appointed Justice of the Peace and, before opening his law practice in 1863, he held a number of prominent positions including Resident Agent for the New Zealand Company (1848-52), Commissioner of crown Lands (1851-52) and deputy Superintendent of Taranaki (1858).
The letters relate to business proceedings during his engagement with the NZ Company and as Commissioner of Crown Lands.
