Description
John Johnson was born in Yorkshire and came to New Zealand with his wife Mary and two children on board the Amelia Thompson. Although a veterinary surgeon by profession, Johnson took up farming in the new colony. In 1847, he enlisted with the Armed Police, being appointed Corporal. However, with the demise of the New Zealand Company in 1850, the Armed Police were disbanded and Johnson's services terminated.
The journal relates the daily activities in New Plymouth including incidents relating to Johnson's personal life as well as police work.
