Description
The Whakamara School was first opened in October 1880 under the tutorage of Jane Bremer at her home with 13 children attending. By 1888, the school had been transferred to the local hall and in 1897 was taken over by the Wanganui Education Board. These existing buildings housed the school up until 1946 when a new school was built. On December 12 1980 the school was closed.
The records include school logs, magazines, MOWM School Sport Association minutes, School Committee Books, booklets; scrapbooks, photographs; minute books; accounts, 75th Jubilee papers including correspondence and the Whakamara School registers 1880 - 1980.
