Description
Marc Voullaire was born on 16 August 1885 and farmed at Riverlea, South Taranaki. He was a sportsman, an amateur astronomer, meteorologist and local historian, with a special interest in the history of the region. For a number of years he wrote a regular article on Riverlea affairs for the Hawera Star newspaper. A life member of Federated Farmers, Voullaire retired to New Plymouth in 1952 and died on 9 April 1964.

Included among his papers is the text of a lecture on the history of the Taranaki dairy industry, given on 16 May and 19 November 1956, along with a collection of contemporary balance sheets and jubilee publications from various local dairy companies. Also reports on attempts to locate the site of Riemenschneider's mission station at Warea; the text of a speech titled "The French and Akaroa" (23 June 1952) based on T. L .Buck's 'The French at Akaroa' published in 1928; a typescript and sketch map of Koru Monastery; and personal farming diaries containing daily entries 1918-1964.
