Description
The collection includes copies of letters and certificates relating to William Deare's career in the merchant navy (1864-1870), personal letters from Edgar Deare (1921-1923), marriage certificate for William James Deare to Mary Simpson (1867) and notice of a golden wedding anniversary.
Also includes two copies of Metcalf's List of Medicines contained in a chest (1853), one copy of Medical Hints for Emigrants which was printed by the Society for the Promotion of Christian Knowledge (1850) and two notebooks containing cures and prescriptions for various illnesses, often with the name of the informant beside the recipe. There is also a collection of notes and prescriptions and various other clippings.
