Description
Letter describing a journey taken by George Curtis (1816-1894) and John Stephenson Smith (1811-1874) from Wellington overland on foot to New Plymouth. It includes references to Reverend William Woon and Johann Friedrich Riemenschneider's missions and cultivations on the Taranaki coast.
A basic index to the letter is included.

George Curtis was in the import business and took up land at Omata. As a member of the militia he helped build the Omata stockade and fought at Ratapihipihi and Waireka during the First Taranaki War. Curtis stood for the Provincial Council in 1855 and served as the member for Omata 1861-1862, later becoming a member of the first Harbour Board in 1875.
