Description
A poem entitled "The Poet's Dream most respectfully inscribed to His Honor Justice Richmond of the Supreme Court, Dunedin by J Cross. The poem was composed a short time previous to the treacherous murder of the escort by the Native race at Taranaki 1863" and tells of a man on a hill, looking down on to Dunedin and the describing the beauty around him. The scene then changes and he describes war in Taranaki with settler's houses being torched and people killed. There is also mention of the Volunteer troops and British Army under the command of Cameron.
