Description
A noted Maori scholar, Walter Gudgeon was a member of the Wanganui Militia and later the Armed Constabulary. At the end of hostilities he was appointed Commisioner of Police and Judge of the Native Land Court.
The typescript is titled 'Incomplete records includes letters and documents concerning the 'White Cliff Massacre' and in particular a letter of confession by Henry Phillips.'
