Description
Jervis came to New Zealand as one of the early surveyors on the 'London' arriving in Wellington in November 1840. He and fellow New Zealand Co surveyors, transferred to the ship 'Brougham' arriving in New Plymouth where he assisted the Plymouth Company's Chief Surveyor Frederick Carrington. he also worked as an agent for inter colonial steamship companies including the Panama Mail Co., Hall's California Line, The Australian Line and the New Zealand Line.
In 1892, Jervis wrote a series of articles which were published in the Taranaki Herald titled 'Notes on New Zealand Pioneering and Early Sketches of New Zealand' which gave an outline of the early days of colonisation along with other articles on the history and development of the colony.
