Description
Frederick Voitrekovsky, third child of Felix and Margaret, nee Reidy was born in Hawera in 1891. His father was Polish and his mother Irish. During World War I he served with the 1st Wellington Regiment (10/2786, 6th Reinforcements) in Gallipoli, Egypt, France and Germany. Following the war, he returned to Taranaki and married Florinda Louisa Journeaux of Hawera.
The name was changed from Voitrekovsky to Voitre. Other spellings include Wojciechowski and Voitrekofsky.
The collection consists of personal letters from Fred to Florinda prior to their marriage. They were engaged before Fred left for overseas and in one of the letters, Fred, believing he had now little to offer, releases Florinda from her pledge. The long distance romance continued and on his return, they were married.
The collection also includes letters from a French friend, misc postcards and photos.
