Description
Typescript copy of Cameron Buchanan's childhood experiences of Great Mercury Island off the coast of the Coromandel Peninsula.
He was 12 months old when his parents moved to the island in 1859. He describes the home, mentioning a problem with rats and dampness in the house. Also writes of events which took place on the island after Rev Volkner had been killed (1865) when the family moved back to Auckland.
The story continues with an account of life in the Bay of Islands before returning to earlier memories of Mercury Island
