Description
Robert Wells came to New Zealand as a young boy, with his family on board the Egmont arriving at Auckland in 1855. The family later moved to Taranaki, settling at Mangorei. During the land wars, he acted as bullock driver in the Artillery, Sergeant in the Mounted Rifles and a Lieut in the Manutahi Rifle Company. He later farmed at Huirangi and Brixton and died January 30th 1916.
The papers consist of two school arithmetic exercise books - dating 1853 (prior to emigration). They both bear the hand drawn crest of his school - Melton House Academy, Wandsworth Road and contain mathematical formulae.
