Description
William Devenish came to New Zealand on the Timandra in 1842, bringing with him, in association with Josiah Flight, the first flock of sheep, ten ewes and two rams. He settled on a farm in Mangorei and was appointed the first chairman of the New Plymouth Town Board in 1863. He died in 1866, leaving his wife Mary and five children.
The collection includes papers, 1841-1869, including a memorandum, agreement, and receipts - mostly relating to various land sales and transactions - and letters, 1854-1872.
