Frank Newmarch was born in Rotorua in 1908 and finished his schooling in Auckland. He married Edna Brialey (Teddy) in 1941. He spent his working life in the Court Division of the Justice Department where he was Registrar and was posted to various courts throughout both North and South Islands on New Zealand. In 1964, he was posted to New Plymouth Court House and retired five years later.
On retirement Frank was elected to the New Plymouth City Council and also served on the Egmont National Park Board
A keen mountaineer, Frank took every opportunity to climb and tramp. He was an enthusiastic member of the New Zealand Alpine Club and joined local tramping and climbing clubs where ever he lived.

The collection reflects Frank's life and interests.
