Description
The Public Cemetery Ordinance 1861 was adopted by the Taranaki Provincial Council on 28th October 1861 and brought all burials under one authority, one set of standards and in designated areas. It set the main cemetery at Te Henui and an administrative Board of Trustees
The records include a copy of the Ordinance, printed on parchment and annotated by Charles Brown (Superintendent, Taranaki Provincial Council) and others. Also Minutes of the Trustee meetings for the period April 1862 - 1889, a record of claimants for interment within the limits of the town of New Plymouth (including St Mary's) for the period 1862 - 1863 and a report compiled in 1903 which summarises all known burials to date at the Te Henui Cemetery.

Record Claimants for Interment within the limits of the Town. This records the names of people claiming the right to be buried in earlier cemeteries - predominantly St Mary's church yard.

  Part 3

Minutes of Trustee meetings 1862 - 1889 record sporadic meetings over this period. Also a report by Thomas Frethy on the search for and collation of information on burials in Te Henui Cemetery. Includes a list of burials for which certificates had been issued but the information not entered into the Register. Also the minutes of the Mechanic's Institute recording the inaugural meeting Aug 1862.
