Description
Baron Charles de Thierry was born in England of French parents. He claimed to have purchased land in New Zealand from Hongi and Waikato during their visit to England in 1822 and arriving in Northland in 1834, he tried, unsuccessfully to assert control. He died in Auckland in 1864
Typescript of an address to 'the white residents of New Zealand', is dated Sept 20th 1837 and was written by de Thierry while in Syndey and includes 'articles of agreement'.
