Philharmonic Society, New Plymouth

Description
The Philharmonic Society, New Plymouth was formed in 1934, changed its name in 1956 to the New Plymouth Philharmonic Choir and was wound up in May 1962. It later reformed as the New Plymouth City Choir.
In 1962, at the time of going into recess, New Plymouth Philharmonic Society's collection of musical score was deposited in the New Plymouth City Library with public access in mind. Most of the collection was uplifted in 2001 by the City Choir, however a small collection of musical score was retained for archival purposes.
The collection contains a sample of music belonging to the Philharmonic Society, New Plymouth including music used when they performed at the New Plymouth Opera House August 19th 1952 (this music links with records also held in the Puke Ariki collections) and copies of mss music thought to be composed locally.
