Description
Born in Waverley 13th June 1912, Bob Brereton schooled in Auckland, Taradale and finally at New Plymouth Central School. His Father was originally from Australia and worked primarily with race horses while his mother Nellie (nee Roberts of Waimate) was a seamstress.
In 1978, while convalescing from surgery, Bob Brereton wrote 'My Life Story or Memoirs'. he describes his childhood and life as a young man. He writes of childhood memories, past times and daily chores. He describes hard times when there was little money, and talks of life as a young man - work, entertainment etc. He mentions his participation in local boxing matches and Tommy Thompson's Gymnasiam. He writes of working in a number of bakeries, some of which he owned in Taihape, New Plymouth, Stratford, Sydney and Wellington.
