Description
The Society was founded by James Burgess, a settler in the Warea area in 1897 or 1898. The society was a very active one with most of the local residents participating in the annual shows which were held in the Warea Hall from 1902 onward. The society went into recess from 1917 to 1934 and again from 1940 to 1967 when a special meeting was convened to wind up the society and transfer accumulated funds to the Warea Hall Society.
The collection comprises two cash-books 1914-1917 and 1934-1940; correspondence (80 items), chiefly about Warea Flower Show, 1935-1940 and two minute books; Cape Egmont Horticulture Society, 1905-1940 and Warea Flower Show, 1906-1935.
