Description
William Ernest Bolland was the only son of Reverend William Bolland, first Anglican Vicar of St Mary's New Plymouth.
An ex-Mertonian with first class honours, William Ernest played in the College Eleven and was Captain of the Volunteer Battalion. After completing his degree, he married and commenced private coaching for under-graduates at Merton. During this time he and a friend, Andrew Lang produced 'Politics of Aristotle', Bolland created the translation from the Greek and Lang added the essays.
In 1879 he took up the position of Headmaster at The Kings School, Worcester, a position he held until 1896. He died in 1919.
The papers cover the early years of his life, relevant family information and correspondence between Mr J. P. Carey, Hertsfordshire, England and Mr H. E. Carey of New Plymouth. Also correspondence with the Taranaki Museum regarding Bolland family artefacts in the collection.
