Description
Transcript of diary entries written by James Livingston (1840-1915) between 9 June 1868 and 3 January 1869. Livingston describes daily events both as a farmer in the north Patea district and as a volunteer in the colonial Patea Field Force which was formed to oppose Titokowaru's armed resistance to the survey and settlement of Ngati Ruanui tribal lands. Livingston was later elected President of the "Hawera Republic" in 1879.
