Two typescript copies of an essay on the 'Life of Richard Barrett'
The first is not attributed to an author. It is without a title page and has been annotated by W. H. Skinner as follows "A composite sketch said? to be written by Barrett himself, but its composition throws doubt and distrust on this. Probably much of it written by a g-son who has drawn on his imagination. Little real value can be placed on it WHS 20.10.45" (z993.121 BAR v/f)
The second has the following on its title page "The Life of Richard Barrett by G. H. Davey - paper prepared and read by Mr Davey at meeting of New Plymouth Historical Society on Oct 8 1945, founded on supposed Barrett diary. At discussion at meeting: - some in old papers by Barrett, Some heresay by descendants, Original by Richard Barrett Honeyfield, Copied by W T Duffin. Death N.P.
Sept 1943 ..'Duffin could fill up what and wherever he wished'. W.H.Skinner:- 'Diary not being authentic'" (z993.482 DAV v/f)
Both copies are on carbon copies of typescripts on similar paper but have be produced separately.
Also included are two newspaper clippings relating to the authenticity of male descendant
