Description
A transcript of his journal beginning September 2nd 1860. Manley Dixon writes of his mother in law setting sail as a refugee for Nelson and his life as a member of the colonial troops. Apart from the regular routines of military life, he describes expeditions to Waitara September 10th; to Tataraimaka September 20th; to Kaihihi October 10th; Mahoetai (Mahoetahi) November 6th; Matarikoriko December 29th and Kairau.
Among the entries there are references to settler houses being burned, ships travelling between Nelson and New Plymouth with the movement of 'refugee' families how he spent Christmas Day 1860. The diary ends on January 2nd 1861.
