Description
A typescript copy of an original account written by Mary Vickers, who died early in the early 20th century. It was found among the belongings of a nephew, now deceased. The location of the original is now unknown.
Mary Vickers recalls her arrival in New Zealand 1851 on board the ship Simlah settling in New Plymouth. She mentions Billy Richards, the owner of the only horse and cart, the arrival of the first steamer 'the Nelson' which arrived in 1853, briefly comments on land disputes at Bell Block in 1854 and how the family moved to Auckland in 1856.
