The ship Halicone under the command of Captain J. E. Crocker, left the East India Docks, Blackwell, London, England on May 25th 1875, bound for Taranaki and Wellington. The ship arrived at New Plymouth, September 2nd and Wellington, September 5th 1875. The Halcione was later wrecked off the Wellington Heads in 1896.
The papers include a passenger list which lists names and ages of passengers, The Log of the Halcione which is the official journal of Percy Lee, the ship's surgeon describing the daily activities on board ship and Halicone medical journal May 27th 1875. The medical journal lists patients, descriptions of illness, treatment and remarks.
