William Cowling and family in the garden of their home, "Hurdon", in Westown, New Plymouth. The property, which stood next to the Hurdon Chapel and Cemetery on what is now Tukapa Street,was purchased by Cowling from Simon Andrews in 1866 and demolished in 1960.
