Captain & Staff of S.S. Manukau
Production date

Description
Photograph shows the Captain and staff of the S.S. Manukau seated on the deck with two dogs. The "Manukau" was one of two ships conveying coal to Waitara from the Maryville mine on the Mokau River. Because of conditions on the river and the size of the ship, navigation could be difficult. It was necessary for ships as large as this to run up and down the river according to the tide.
Left to Right: ? Brown (cook), Captain Martin Jensen,
Henry Clare (Fireman), Austin Dugdale ( Engineer), Arnold Olsen (Mate)
