Description
View of the Hui at Waitara in June 1878 present were Sir George Grey, Rewi Maniopoto, Wiremu Kingi, Titokowaru, Teira Manuka and other high-ranking Maori leaders and Government and local officials. The hui lasted a period of 10 days, special trains ran hundreds of New Plymouth residents to view the proceedings. Caption under printed image reads " a Maori meeting at Waitara, New Zealand - distributing the food for the feast".
