This plate was part of an Etruscan Vases patterned neoclassical dinner set used in the Officers’ Mess at the barracks on Marsland Hill, New Plymouth, during the Taranaki Wars. The dinner set was later used by members of the Hempton family. The pattern is a reference to Etruria, an ancient state of central Italy.
