Description
Powelliphanta traversi tararuaensis. A Travers Land Snail, brown in colour. The shell is badly cracked with one piece completely broken away. "219" has been handwritten in black on the shell. A piece of paper has been inserted and reads in blue handwritten ink "P. t. tauraensis (Green form) / Headwater Kaihinu River, south / of Palmerston North. Coll PRJ 1974". Situated in a cardboard box with a white label with black printed text that reads "Form tarauaensis / In waterfern on hillside / at top of Scott RD, Shannon". Handwritten in blue pen is "PTO" and on the reverse in pen again, "P. traversi". A96.929-931 are also contained in this box.

This subspecies is found around Northern Tararua Range, North Island. It is one of the large land carnivorous snails that eats earthworms. They are endemic to New Zealand. Little is known about the species and their population status but they are susceptible to habitat loss and predation.
